San Francisco 49er Enters Rehab

Aldon Smith, linebacker for the San Francisco 49ers was admitted today to an inpatient drug and alcohol treatment facility. Smith, who turns 24 on Wednesday, has had two arrests for suspicion of driving under the influence. Smith has taken an indefinite leave from the team in order to get the treatment he deserves. Smith, his team and the NFL realize that his recovery will be a long process and don’t want the recovery process rushed in order to get him back to the line up.

After playing in Sunday, Smith apologized to his teammates. He said, “I am sorry that I have affected my team, my family and the organization. I will do everything in my power to handle this situation the best way possible. I appreciate the support of the 49ers and our fans.”

Smith has been placed on the non-illness list while he seeks his much needed treatment. The NFL reports that there is no minimum or maximum time that he can be on the non-injury list.
