Teacher Facing Drug Possession Charges

A random search of a high school in Gardiner, Maine, has resulted in charges of possession of drugs and drug paraphernalia against a local teacher. Two 16-year-old boys were also charged, though it is unknown if their charges were related to the teacher’s. In addition, one other staff member was placed on administrative leave. The raid was conducted by local police with the assistance of Maine State Police. Drug-sniffing dogs were also used. The dogs found drugs in three vehicles in the high school parking lot.

This is a powerful example of how far drugs and drug culture have infiltrated American schools. Though the actual drugs involved were not released to the public, it could have been any of a number of popular drugs such as cocaine, marijuana, meth, PCP, bath salts, heroin, prescription pills, or others. Few people would dispute that drug-users are not people that should be teaching children. However, the best course of action is not always punishment with jail time or fines; rather, research has shown that the most effective course is a good treatment program at a well-rated facility.

If you or someone you know has a problem with drug addiction or dependence, you should seek help now before more drugs are spread around. Thankfully, there is good help available. Detoxification and behavioral therapy have proven to be effective in treating drug dependence. Addicts are often unable to complete treatment on their own or with family members, so it’s very important to seek the right treatment center.
