New Jersey School District Will Continue Random Drug Tests

After a meeting and a vote by board members, the Board of Education for Hillsborough, New Jersey, has decided to keep on with their policy of randomly drug-testing students. The debate has been going on for months, and both sides presented impassioned arguments for either direction. The final vote was 6-3 in favor of keeping the random drug-testing. Though the board members acknowledged that the procedure may be flawed, they still saw it as being valuable in the ongoing efforts to combat the spread of drugs in New Jersey schools.

Unfortunately, the situation for teens and drugs is dire. Both heroin and prescription pills are skyrocketing in use among New Jersey youths, often with fatal results. Though law enforcement agencies are targeting dealers and distributors, there is only so much they can do. However, there is good news too. The best remedy for drug abuse is the same it’s always been: a good program of treatment in a highly-rated facility. This is true whether the drug in question is heroin, prescription pills, marijuana, alcohol, cocaine, meth, PCP, bath salts, or anything else.

If you or someone you know has a problem with addiction or dependence to drugs, you should seek help now. Thankfully, there is good help available. Detoxification and behavioral therapy have proven to be effective in treating drug dependence. Addicts are often unable to complete treatment on their own or with family members, so it’s very important to seek the right treatment center.
