New Jersey Pharmacist Charged With Illegally Selling Prescription Drugs

Police report that a local pharmacist bases out of West Orange, New Jersey has been charged with selling oxycodone to people without prescriptions. He was arrested by the Drug Enforcement Agency, a federal institution that takes over large-scale drug cases from local cops. According to police, the pharmacist sold oxycodone illegally at least six times between February and August 2012. In one case, he sold a 200-count bottle of pills for $1,800—all with no prescription, and none asked for. The pharmacist is being charged by the US Attorney’s office.

The abuse of prescription pills has one of the highest growth rates for all misused drugs—skyrocketing past the demand for illegal drugs like meth, cocaine, heroin, crack, and marijuana. They’re often easier to obtain than purely illegal drugs because they are distributed through legitimate channels. However, they’re no less deadly than illegal drugs. Some people think that because they’re used and endorsed by the pharmaceutical industry, they’re safer than street drugs, but any drug can be deadly when taken without the advice and guidance of a licensed medical professional.

If you have a problem with drug addiction or dependence, you should seek help now. Thankfully, there is good help available.
