New Jersey ABC Busts Secret Alcohol Ring

New Jersey ABC Busts Secret Alcohol Ring

The Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) of New Jersey has recently busted a ring that sold unlicensed and unlabeled alcoholic beverages to corner stores—which might have sold them to underage drinkers by accident. The drink, called “Extracto de Malta,” was found in at least 15 supermarkets and bodegas. It was placed on soft drink shelves and often put next to “Malta,” which is a carbonated and non-alcoholic beverage. This kind of undercover alcoholic drink can pose a serious relapse risk to alcoholics or those recovering from alcohol abuse.

Thanks to the action of the ABC, this dangerous unlabeled drink is no longer on the market, but it’s just one example of how clumsiness or malice can cause dangerous situations for alcoholics or underage drinkers who don’t even know they’re consuming alcohol. It’s hard enough avoiding temptation when you know it’s there, it’s another thing entirely when you’re sold products that contain alcohol but don’t list it. If unlabeled alcoholic drinks have you relapsing, you should seek good help and a flexible recovery program.

If you think you have a problem with alcohol dependence or abuse, you should seek help now and begin improving your overall mental and emotional health today. Thankfully, there is good help available. Detoxification and behavioral therapy have proven to be effective in treating alcoholism. Addicts are often unable to complete treatment on their own or with family members, so it’s very important to seek the right treatment center. At Seabrook, we customize our treatment plans to individual patient’s needs, so you know the help you’re getting is right for you or a loved one.
