First Medical Marijuana Dispensary Opens in New Jersey

New Jersey’s first legal dispensary of medical marijuana has won the right to sell pot for medicinal purposes, marking a historic landmark for the Garden State. The non-profit Greenleaf Compassion Center will open soon in Montclair, Essex County, and will only serve customers with valid government medical marijuana cards. The dispensary will also only be allowed to sell reduced-potency strains of pot. Though this is good news for those who have legitimate need of medical marijuana, no doubt drug-enforcement agencies will be watching the dispensary closely to make sure the drugs aren’t abused.

In all of New Jersey, 190 people have been granted the right to buy marijuana for medical purposes. Though it’s good to make medicine available to those who need it, if not treated carefully this availability could be very dangerous for those who are addicted to pot. Easy availability would lead to much stronger temptation for those who are abusing the drug. Though illegally possessing marijuana is looked on as less dangerous than having harder drugs like heroin, cocaine, crack, meth, or others, it still carries a similar punishment under current law.

If you’ve got a problem with using marijuana, now is the best time to seek good help. Thankfully, there is good help easily available. Detoxification and behavioral therapy have proven to be effective in treating dependence. Addicts are often unable to complete treatment on their own or with family members, so it’s very important to seek the right treatment center.
