Eagles Coach Andy Reid Back to Work After Son’s Funeral

Andy Reid, the coach for the Philadelphia Eagles, has gone back to work at the Eagles camp after the emotional funeral of his son Garrett, who died recently of a suspected drug overdose. Garrett Reid was memorialized in a ceremony at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Broommall, PA. He had struggled since his teenage years with oxycontin, painkillers, and opiates. Garrett Reid had undergone drug treatment and rehab, but apparently relapsed. He was 29 years old. In a statement, Andy Reid said that Garrett “lost the battle.”

Andy Reid had to return to work coaching the Eagles after such a short leave because the Eagles are playing in a preseason opener soon. Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie said, “It will be therapy for Andy.” Andy Reid’s son was found dead on August 5th in a Lehigh University dorm room. His story is just one more sobering example that drugs cost lives, and even recovering addicts are at-risk for relapse and overdose. Treatment is often the beginning to a lifelong struggle.

Don’t be the next tragedy—if you have a problem with drugs you should seek help now. Thankfully, there is good help available. Detoxification and behavioral therapy have proven to be effective in treating drug dependence. Addicts are often unable to complete treatment on their own or with family members, so it’s very important to seek the right treatment center. At Seabrook, we customize our treatment plans to individual patient’s needs, so you know the help you’re getting is right for you or a loved one.
