Driver Crashes Under Influence of Alcohol and Pot

Recently in Las Vegas, a crash that killed four people and injured seven others was caused by a driver that was driving under the influence of both alcohol and marijuana. The driver lost control of his speeding vehicle and slammed into a bus stop filled with morning commuters. Though the driver had less than the legal limit of alcohol in his blood, as the prosecutor Brian Rutledge said, “Alcohol and marijuana at the same time greatly increases the level of impairment.” The crash happened a few miles west of the Las Vegas Strip.

This is just one more tragic story that proves that intoxicating substances and driving don’t mix well. Whether the substance in question is alcohol, pot, or other drugs like cocaine, PCP, meth, heroin, or prescription pills, the fact is that they make people behave erratically and do things they normally wouldn’t. If you have an addiction or dependence on drugs or alcohol and drive regularly, the odds are that you’re putting innocent people at risk just like this driver did. The best remedy for substance problems remains what it always has been: a good treatment program.

If you or someone you know has a problem with alcohol addiction or dependence, you should seek help now. Thankfully, there is good help available. Detoxification and behavioral therapy have proven to be effective in treating alcohol and drug dependence. Addicts are often unable to complete treatment on their own or with family members, so it’s very important to seek the right treatment center.
