Coast Guard Finds 85 Pounds Of Cocaine

Coast Guard Sector Houston-Galveston along with several federal agencies spent Christmas Eve together, but they were not trimming any trees.  Teams were assembled to remove more than 85 pounds of cocaine from a ship off located off of the Galveston coast.

The crew of an oil tanker found a suspicious package hidden aboard their ship and suspected it to contain narcotics.  They then radioed the Coast Guard.  A joint boarding team consisting of the Coast Guard Investigative Service, Customs and Border Protection Office of Air and Marine, Homeland Security Investigations and the Drug Enforcement Administration were assembled to board the tanker and locate the cocaine.

The drug teams searched the vessel and seized 31 packages of cocaine.  The estimated valued is over $1.1 million. This is a great day for the Coast Guard, and an even better day for are residents.  The use of cocaine has become an epidemic, and it is important that our government agencies continue to stop the supply of drugs into our cities.  We also need to provide treatment services and help those addicted to drugs.
